Members of the Board

John L. Jones

John L. Jones

President

John Jones is CEO of the Jones Legacy Ventures, the parent company of Cassity Jones Lumber, Winn Tile Company, Allen Commercial and CJ Commercial company. These businesses serve the construction service industry in the East Texas, Dallas and Bossier City Louisiana areas.

John grew up in Carthage and graduated from Carthage High School in 1971 and Texas A & M University in 1974. John married the love of his life, Lisa, while in college. They have two grown children and 5 grandchildren.

John has been active for many years in the Lumberman’s Association of Texas. He is a former President of the association and was honored by the Association with the 2010 Texas Lumber Dealer of the Year award.

In his community, John has served as President of the Henderson Optimist Club, Chairman of the YMCA campaign, Commissioner of the Henderson Boy’s Baseball Association and an elected Director of the Rusk County Electric Cooperative. He also served on many church committees at the 1st Baptist Church of Henderson. He and Lisa moved to Tyler, Tx. in 2012. They are currently members of the Green Acres Baptist Church.

John developed a passion for therapeutic riding while volunteering on Saturdays at the Spirit of St. Louis Therapy Center in Tyler, a predecessor to the Starbrite Therapeutic Equestrian Center.

John’s hobbies include quail hunting, ranching and watching the Grandkids grow.

Don Hood

Don Hood

Don Hood is owner and operator of TTI Tubulars and co-owner of LTD Fabrication. Don has been involved in the oil and gas industry for 30 years.

Don grew up in the Boerne, Texas and graduated from Tomball High School in 1973 and SFA University in 1979. He is married to his wife, Pam, who shares his passion for nonprofits. They are proud parents of 4 grown children and 3 grandchildren.

Don is involved in several organizations and church activities at GABC. He has been on the Tyler Oilmens Benefit Association board for 35 years. He previously served on the Camp Tyler Foundation board, GABC missions board and several GABC children’s activity groups.

Don has a 30 year history with Windridge Therapeutic Equestrian Center in New Diana. He served as board president at Windridge for 10 Years. It was during this time that he saw the tremendous impact such a facility can have on various populations of children and adults.

Debra Smith

Debra Smith. Debra is from Carthage and a graduate of Carthage High School and Tyler Junior College. She and her husband, Mark, are the parents of three adult children and are members of Green Acres Baptist Church. They have lived in Tyler for over 35 years. Mrs. Smith is a Senior Branch Office Administrator for Edward Jones and spends much of her free time in service to her community as a member of the Women’s Fund of Smith County and the Bethesda Alliance. She previously served as a co-chair for the 2017 American Cancer Society’s Cattle Barons’ Gala and the 2018 Women’s Fund Mother’s Day Luncheon. Her philosophy of volunteerism stems from a quote from Winston Churchill, who said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

Eric Peterson

Eric grew up in Longview, and after graduation continued his education in DFW area where he graduated from the University of North Texas as well as University of Dallas before moving back to East Texas and settling in the Tyler area in 2010. He and his wife Kathleen have one daughter Abby who loves being the center of attention. Eric works at Johnson Controls Inc as the West Territory Controller and in his spare time enjoys travelling with his family, working on various home improvement projects, and anything that gets him outdoors. Eric also volunteers on the board of the East Texas Down Syndrome Group and has seen firsthand the power that volunteering can have on the community.

Mark Smith

Mark Smith has been a dedicated equestrian, breeder and trainer for over 40 years. He also spent two decades as the ranch manager of an over 200 acre horse ranch. With a soft spot for Quarter Horses, Mark’s gentle training methods consistently produced horses known for their intelligence, athleticism, and an agreeable nature toward children.

Mark is husband to Debra Smith, father to three grown children, grandfather to five grandchildren, an employee of Vaughn Energy Services, and a member of Green Acres Baptist Church. In his free time, you can find him riding trails with his two horses, Miss Jilly Rose and Sparkle Belle, landscaping his yard, or training his Golden Retriever, Bo along with his best pal, German Shepherd, Axle.

Bill Ward

Bill Ward is a retired school superintendent/educator. He is married to Neita Fran Ward owner of Valerosa Designs and Gallery in Tyler. They have five grown children and thirteen grandchildren. Bill has a passion for serving children and raising horses. He believes that good things happen when they are put together.
